The Egyptians considered the phoenix to be the spirit of Ra, the god of the sun. The sun which “dies” in setting each night only to be reborn in rising the next morning. The phoenix is reborn and obtains new life by rising from the ashes.
The child is entering a void with innocence and joy.
I have been experimenting with digital art by layering photos and different textures. This one ended up making a passageway to the unknown. The swirls seem to draw her into the light.
Digital art is fun because it allows me to combine my photography and my imagination. Combining different photos or elements into a new piece of art taps the creative juices.
The torch cactus blooms and the next day or two it is gone. A bud starts to spread open. The next morning the bloom is like a present which has been opened in glorious, beautiful color.
One day, while taking a photo walk in my neighborhood, I turned around and what did I see? An American kestrel falcon looking into a hole in a saguaro cactus.
Walking among these giant redwood trees in a mist of raindrops, I felt the enormity of nature.
Many of these majestic trees started growing thousands of years ago and may reach over 300 feet tall.
Located in the northernmost coastal area of California, this particular tree was in the Lady Bird Johnson Grove.
