The torch cactus blooms and the next day or two it is gone. A bud starts to spread open. The next morning the bloom is like a present which has been opened in glorious, beautiful color.
The Red torch cactus (variously Echinopsis huascha var. grandiflora or Trichocereus huascha) is native to northern Argentina. The flowers are nocturnally blooming and exist for only about 18 hours, similar to saguaro flowers. Flower color ranges from deep red to orange and yellow depending on the cultivar. This one is “Butterfly Mango”.
